On behalf of HeyCharge, GT is looking for a Firmware Developer to join to help revolutionize how they build, install, access, and maintain electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

What is HeyCharge?

HeyCharge is a German electric car charging infrastructure company with a seed round backed by Y Combinator and BMW i Ventures, which has developed a unique, exciting technology that dramatically lowers the cost and effort of installing and operating electric vehicles chargers. They are a heavily international (one ex-Google founder from the USA, ex-BMW/SIXT founder from Germany, and a team from 5 countries and counting), dynamic, and hybrid-remote team who love to build product experiences and technology that impress the user.


HeyCharge differs from conventional EV charging solutions by working without an internet connection unlike other products on the market. This helps not only to reduce the price of the solution but also the price of its installation and operation. Simultaneously, it allows locating charging stations in underground parking garages easing the pain for individual owners of electric vehicles, while the network connection is usually unstable there.

With the unique SecureCharge technology which maximizes user satisfaction and also optimizes unit economics, devices will communicate directly over Bluetooth with the HeyCharge App or SDK and provide maximum availability of the system while minimizing latency between the phone and the charger.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work with embedded lead to develop features on a range of hardware devices, including:
    • Low-cost charging device based on Silabs EFR32MG21 Wireless SoC
    • Embeddable module for third-party chargers based on EFR32MG21 Wireless SoC
    • Smart plugs based on EFR32MG21 Wireless SoC
    • Embedded Linux devices (Raspberry Pi-level hardware) complementing our hardware lineup.
  • Closely work with the QA to deliver stable firmware.

Must have skills:

  • 5 + years of experience in embedded C / C++ (the project uses C11 standard)
  • Experience and comfort with embedded hardware, e.g. using RTOS, embedded Linux, etc.
  • Embedded hardware peripheral and drivers, e.g. SPI, UART, I2C, etc.
  • Understanding of OOP and SOLID principles.
